This website’s name pays tribute to the eight brave Russians who protested in Red Square in August 1968 against the occupation of Czechoslovakia. They were beaten, imprisoned, sent to penal colonies, or confined to psychiatric hospitals. It was clear from the start that this would be the outcome. Nevertheless, they went out to protest against injustice—for the sake of people they did not even know.
At the time, they held hand-painted banners; the inscription in the header is from one of them. It unites all the brave individuals who—with or without weapons—resist brutality, lack of freedom, and injustice.

More than four years of work—this is the right moment to evaluate and decide on the next steps. My goal is to offer monitoring of the Russian resistance within a broader context.
I continue to consider stories of individual personal heroism in the face of tyranny to be the most important message—or, if you will, the mission—of the entire Eight Brave project. However, during this time, I have gathered a vast amount of information that remains somewhat unfairly in the background.
This data is extremely useful from a strategic thinking perspective. We know almost nothing about the resistance against the Russian regime. The language barrier and the screen of propaganda do not make it any easier for us.
In the very near future, a moment may come when every piece of information will be valuable, regardless of which way things “swing” in Russia.
THE RUSSIAN RESISTANCE MOVEMENT EXISTS
