This website’s name pays tribute to the eight brave Russians who protested in Red Square in August 1968 against the occupation of Czechoslovakia. They were beaten, imprisoned, sent to penal colonies, or confined to psychiatric hospitals. It was clear from the start that this would be the outcome. Nevertheless, they went out to protest against injustice—for the sake of people they did not even know.

At the time, they held hand-painted banners; the inscription in the header is from one of them. It unites all the brave individuals who—with or without weapons—resist brutality, lack of freedom, and injustice.

More than four years of work—this is the right moment to evaluate and decide on the next steps. My goal is to offer monitoring of the Russian resistance within a broader context.

I continue to consider stories of individual personal heroism in the face of tyranny to be the most important message—or, if you will, the mission—of the entire Eight Brave project. However, during this time, I have gathered a vast amount of information that remains somewhat unfairly in the background.

This data is extremely useful from a strategic thinking perspective. We know almost nothing about the resistance against the Russian regime. The language barrier and the screen of propaganda do not make it any easier for us.

In the very near future, a moment may come when every piece of information will be valuable, regardless of which way things “swing” in Russia.

Translator Anna Valentová systematically reports on the activities of free-thinking Russians on her website. Please support Anna in her important work, both financially and by sharing her texts. In this war, information is as important as weapons. Those who lack it, or believe lies, will lose.
“PEACE TO UKRAINE, FREEDOM TO RUSSIA!” This is the slogan of the Freedom of Russia Legion. Without Russians who distance themselves from Putin's regime and help Ukraine, it will be very difficult to win the war against the Russian aggressor.

I call upon all responsible and strategically thinking democrats to support Anna Valentová's website. Anna is doing incredibly important work. Without Russians who are on our side and helping Ukraine, we can never truly win. The Freedom of Russia Legion's slogan is Peace to Ukraine, Freedom to Russia.
There is hope that Russian Putinist fascism can be defeated. But it will not happen without our Russians. People must know about them! Let all Russians who now live in shame because of Putin have a reason for pride. Let them have something to join. Let's support the website about the Freedom of Russia Legion. It makes sense. Thank you!

A true reflection on our period of the "dictatorship of the proletariat" has not yet taken place. Nevertheless, at least most of us remember quite well that those who tried to resist that immoral regime in one way or another numbered a few tens of thousands at most. Millions of others "adapted." This is certainly happening in contemporary Russia as well. Heroes are always few.
This makes it all the more important to point them out. Today, Anna Valentová writes about them systematically. Thanks to her, they will not be completely forgotten, and their sacrifices will surely contribute over time to a better future for Russia and thus for all of us. At the same time, she patiently and persistently teaches us to distinguish between Russians: criminals, "ordinary people," and heroes.
