Andrey Veryanov<\/a>, who is serving a sentence in Russia for \u201cterrorism and high treason\u201d due to ties to the Freedom of Russia Legion<\/a>, faces new charges.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

FSB<\/a> is playing its favorite charade once again. It has now announced that Andrey Veryanov, a fifty-five-year-old archaeologist already serving nearly a quarter-century in prison, \u201ctested air defense weaknesses\u201d using homemade drones and \u201cplanned to blow up the plane of a high-ranking official.\u201d Which one? \u201cA secret,\u201d of course. To let the imagination run wild. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After all, only yesterday he was being tried for \u201cmere\u201d high treason and terrorism\u2014due to his connection to the Freedom of Russia Legion. That was enough to get him years in prison and a fine that an ordinary person cannot even imagine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is Andrey Veryanov really?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A man with a colorful life. Twenty years in Peru\u2014geophysics, archaeology, Incan<\/a> heritage, research in Sacsayhuam\u00e1n<\/a>. The first work with high-performance ground-penetrating radar<\/a> in the region. He is not a militant. He is not an underground activist. He is a scientist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2017, he returned to Russia to care for his sick mother. He found the beginning of the war and a country descending into madness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He did not accept the \u201cSMO<\/a>.\u201d He participated in demonstrations. He wrote anti-war posts. He spoke openly. And in 2023, he was arrested. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The worst accusation?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was releasing \u201cdangerous metallized balloons.\u201d The investigation portrayed it as an entire operation by the Ukrainian secret services. He himself called it \u201cfireworks\u201d as a sign of protest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He sought out those who thought like him. He remained human. He wrote from the pretrial detention center: the country is drowning in darkness, one cannot remain silent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And now\u2014a new level of absurdity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the verdict, when his fate had already been decided, new chapters are suddenly \u201crevealed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not for the court\u2014it is for television. To make the image fit: everything is turned into \u201csabotage\u201d and a \u201cthreat to the state.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regime therefore reaches a conclusion, simple and convenient: every gesture can become a crime, every word a sentence, every dissenter an enemy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But behind all this hysteria lies one fact that is unbearable for them: they did not break Veryanov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And even from his cage, he speaks louder than their entire chorus of propagandists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You do not need to know his name, biography, age, or who he was \u201cin civilian life.\u201d It is enough to know one thing: he chose freedom where death is forced upon everyone around him. And for that, they are vindictively locking him away behind bars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Write, because a letter is no trivial matter. It is an indicator by which the regime suddenly sees the scale of what it fears: solidarity. Not anonymous, but living. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
