The second online referendum of this year on the self-determination of Russian regions has already begun. They did not ask the Kremlin.
On May 12, 2023, the results of the first five online referendums on independence from the Russian Federation were announced. Citizens of Siberia, the Urals, Kuban (Krasnodar Region), Königsberg (Kaliningrad and the Kaliningrad Region), and Ingria (St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region) voted. More than 5,500,000 citizens of the named regions participated in the referendums, and all five chose independence.
The second vote has been running since midnight on July 1, 2023, and will end at midnight on the night of July 16; decisions are being made regarding Chuvashia, Karelia, and the Voronezh, Belgorod, and Novgorod regions. In the first 24 hours, 30,000 to 50,000 citizens voted in each region.
