Lithuanians Stop Russian-Hired Assassins

Ruslan Gabbasov, the exiled leader of the Bashkir resistance movement with a Russian bounty on his head, escaped thanks to Lithuanian secret services.

Ruslan Gabbasov:

More than a year ago, on Lithuania’s Independence Day, Lithuanian security services managed to prevent an assassination attempt on my person. In the interest of the investigation, we remained silent with the Lithuanian side, but now, after publication in Greek, Lithuanian, and other European media, I can confirm with certainty that Russian secret services planned my murder.

This occurred after repeated but unsuccessful attempts by Russian security services to lure me onto Russian territory. Various methods were used, including the arrest of my brother Faridin Rustam and a subsequent offer to release him from prison if I returned to Russia.

After the failure of all these attempts, the Chekists decided to act harshly. The absence of any human values among the Chekists is evidenced by the fact that I was not alone on the day of the assassination attempt. When the hitman was waiting for me in front of the house, I was returning with my family, my partner, and my five-year-old son. Naturally, they would likely have been eliminated as witnesses.

I am well aware that the FSB and GRU consider national movements, and especially the League of Free Nations, a serious threat. The popularity of our ideas—the idea of decolonization, the collapse of Russia, and of course the independence of our national republics—has in many ways exceeded our boldest expectations.

Anti-Imperial Block of Nations:

In Lithuania, a plot to assassinate Ruslan Gabbasov, chairman of the Committee of the Bashkir National Movement Abroad and a member of the League of Free Nations, was uncovered. European investigators state that he was being followed, information was being gathered about him, and attempts were made to access his devices. The assassins were promised approximately 40,000 euros for the hit, the organizer up to 50,000 euros, with 5,000 euros already transferred for preparations, including documents and travel to Lithuania. 12. In March 2025, Lithuanian security forces thwarted the assassination attempt and detained part of the group. An investigation is currently ongoing, including in Greece, where another member of the network was recently arrested. The FSB is preparing for the collapse of Russia and is trying to eliminate the leaders of national republics in advance.

Congress of People’s Deputies:

Following the publication of information regarding the thwarted attempt on his life by Russian intelligence services on European Union soil, the Congress of People’s Deputies expresses its firm support for the Bashkir politician and representative of the national movement, Ruslan Gabbasov. This incident is not accidental; it is a continuation of the Kremlin’s systematic policy of physically liquidating political opponents both in the Russian Federation and abroad. Committing political assassinations on foreign territory is a gross violation of international law and the sovereignty of European states.

SUPPORT OUR WORK

We make the Russian resistance movement visible.

The EIGHT BRAVE project maps and visualizes the activities and connections of the Russian resistance movement. Let’s push this topic into public debate. Let’s thumb our noses at the Russian regime and our own prejudices. When we talk and write about them—and when there are many of us—it will be harder for Russian propaganda. And that is already something. Every bit counts.
