Russians on the side of Ukraine on the death of Ildar Dadin
Andrey Volna, a Russian doctor (traumatologist), who condemned the Russian aggression and treats wounded soldiers and civilians in Ukraine:
A hero has died on the Kharkiv front. Our hero. Ildar Dadin has died. A fighter of the Freedom of Russia Legion (in the end). Such sadness…
I apologize to my Ukrainian friends. They might not know Ildar. In Ukraine. Where heroes die every day… For the Russian Resistance (Exactly, for the Resistance. The term “Russian opposition” probably no longer makes sense to use…) Ildar is an iconic figure. More than ten arrests at protests. Including the one at a rally in support of Ukraine.
Ildar Dadin became the first person convicted under the then-new article. Three administrative offenses, which a person had already been subjected to, turned into a new offense – but now under criminal law. They even started calling that article by his name – the DADINSKAYA article.
He was repeatedly beaten and tortured. Both in pretrial detention and in the prison camp. With the start of the total aggression, Ildar left for Poland and then to Ukraine. He fought in volunteer units. HE PERISHED…
It is clear to you what I was thinking about…
Just yesterday, the “Kasparov” Free Russia Forum ended. A forum that truly and effectively supports Russian volunteers.
The topic of disagreements within the “Russian opposition” was not discussed there. Why, I wonder?
Because the Forum is not the “Russian opposition.” The Forum is the Resistance.
There was only one call – join us! You don’t want to? Well, then your current moral state will soon seem like a walk in the park…
(Note – we are talking about political groups, movements, etc.).
And at each of the panels, the topic of supporting Russian volunteers was discussed.
There is also one controversial point in the resolution (easily searchable on the internet). It concerns the political independence of Russian volunteer units and the gradual formation of a liberation army based on them.
The Ukrainian side, of course, may have (and often does have) a different view on the matter.
I really hope that Garry Kasparov and Ivan Tyutrin will make every effort to reach a compromise on this issue as soon as possible.
I am sure that the Congress (Congress of People’s Deputies, editor’s note) will join.
However, resolutions will not suffice to solve the problems. It is necessary to go to Ukraine and talk, to look each other in the eye.
And all this needs to be done quickly. After all, those guys who are on the side of light are dying every day. And civilians are dying too.
I am sure that real politicians understand this better than I do.
Support for volunteers (read: ourselves) should not take place “from forum to forum.” It should be the subject of EVERYDAY activities of the Resistance.
Everyday. Everyone in their field, everyone doing their part. Some in the military, others in political, medical, financial, media, and information matters. Each in their own way. But all under the “umbrella” of volunteer support. After all, we are supporting ourselves. We must coordinate our activities with all participants of the resistance.
If this had already happened, look, Ildar would be alive. Just like the other heroes of Ukraine.
Well – and until then, until then, another step must be taken. Enter into a fruitful dialogue with Ukraine. And in this case, the “ball” is in the court of the Resistance forces.
To come to an agreement.
For the sake of those who are alive.
And in memory of those who died.
In memory of the heroes.
In memory of Ildar Dadin.

Almost forty years ago, in 1986, I was asked to write an article about Vysotsky. Back then, I really regretted that I had never heard Vladimir Semyonovich’s voice live. Now I have the same feeling: I really regret that I did not manage to shake hands with Ildar Dadin. It seemed that one day we would meet again, but unfortunately, that will never happen now…
For me, Ildar Dadin is the personification of human dignity, a reluctance to live under oppression when the possibility to breathe freely in one’s own country shrinks like tanned leather. Dadin did not pursue political interests with his protests. He protested because it was the right thing to do.
During his arrests and in Putin’s dungeons, he behaved unyieldingly, and when it turned out that the only possible form of protest now was to take up arms and defend Ukraine, Ildar Dadin was again in the front ranks. He went to war because he could not do otherwise, because there was no other way.
In connection with the tragic death of the Russian opposition activist and volunteer of the Freedom of Russia Legion, Ildar Dadin, to preserve his memory – and also to support all forms of anti-Putin resistance – the Council of the Free Russia Forum has decided on behalf of the Free Russia Forum to establish the Ildar Dadin Prize; it will be awarded to people who have demonstrated their unyieldingness in the fight against Putin’s tyranny.
He is a true hero of his time, who connected all phases of resistance – from peaceful protests under the baton of Putin’s repressive forces to open combat with the enemy on the battlefield. He never blurred anything, never looked for detours or loopholes in the system, but consistently and uncompromisingly stood against it.
Dadin – that is real protest. Sincere human protest is an absolutely natural reaction to tyranny.
The Free Russia Forum announces the establishment of the Ildar Dadin Prize, which will be awarded to unyielding fighters against Putin’s tyranny, such as he was.
