Rafis Kashapov

A Tatar opposition and national activist, and a long-standing advocate for Tatarstan's right to self-determination. He was sentenced to three years in prison in Russia for criticizing the Russian annexation of Crimea and the treatment of Crimean Tatars; Amnesty International designated him a prisoner of conscience. After his release, he went into exile and co-founded the Free Idel-Ural movement. He currently serves as the Prime Minister of the Government of Independent Tatarstan in exile.
